English

Definition #73176 - Preferred

selma'o

FA

definition

Pendent preposition. Introduces a dangling argument that doesn't take part in the surrounding argument structure; similarly to {zo'u}, it may be used for pre-declaring a quantification, or for introducing an argument that will be later referred to anaphorically. The pronoun {zoi'i} is automatically bound to the argument introduced by {fai'i}.

definition

marks the next sumti as being removed from the place structure.

notes

"mi broda fai'i do" = "mi broda". This apparently useless maneuver has only one real use: to create relative clauses with no occurrence of ke'a, or ka abstractions with no occurrence of ce'u (since otherwise a ke'a or ce'u respectively is automatically filled in the first empty slot). This in turn can allow "pe/ne fi'o BRIVLA" to be translated as "poi/noi fai'i ke'a BRIVLA". See also pe, ne, ke'a, ce'u.
